Chocolate Oreo Balls A.K.A Reindeer Droppings
As summer approaches, club banquets and end-of-the-year get-togethers beg for desserts not packaged and delivered in cellophane wrappers. Oreo balls, also known as Reindeer Droppings during the holiday season, are a simple treat perfect for celebratory occasions and only require a bowl, spoon, microwave and cookie sheet to prepare!
1 14-16 oz package Oreos (any variety)
8 oz. Cream Cheese
8 oz. Semi-Sweet Baker’s Chocolate (microwavable, white or chocolate)
Empty an entire 14-16 oz. package of Oreos into a medium to large bowl. Crush the cookies with the back of the spoon until only smalls chunks of cookie remain. It may help to put the Oreos into a sealed, air-less baggie, and punch them with your fists for optimal crushing.
Once all the cookies have been crushed, mix in the cream cheese using a large spoon or spatula. Stir until all of the cream cheese and cookies pieces are well blended and have a smooth consistency.
Spoon out and form the cookie-cheese mixture into balls, using your hands to roll them if necessary. Place them onto the wax paper-covered cookie sheet. The balls can be as large or as small as desired. The smaller the balls are, the more people can share.
(Optional) Once placed on the cookie sheet, insert the Oreo Balls into the freezer and let sit for a minimum of two hours.
Melt the Baker’s Chocolate following the directions on the package, using either a bowl in the microwave, or a saucepan on the stove-top.
Once the chocolate is fully melted, retrieve the cookie sheet from the freezer and spoon the melted chocolate over the Oreo Balls. Alternatively, you can use a toothpick, fondue fork or tongs to dip each Oreo Ball into the chocolate mixture, and roll until adequately coated.
After coating in chocolate, refrigerate for five to ten minutes, until the chocolate has hardened. Sprinkle with powdered sugar for garnish if you wish.
Serve with a glass of milk and enjoy! These treats are super rich, the ultimate indulgence!
