Don’t have any more eggs in your house? The milk is gone too? This easy recipe does not require anything but cake mix and a can of soda. There are literally hundreds of combinations that you can do with this. You can even go low-calorie by using sugar free products.

  • 1 box Cake Mix

  • 1 Can (12 ounces) Soda Pop

  • Whipped Cream or Frosting

  1. A tip before you start: Lighter colored cake mixed typically taste better with light colored soda; dark cake mixes with dark soda. Try these combinations: Strawberry Soda & White Cake (pictured), Lemon Lime Soda & Orange Cake, Sprite & Funfetti Cake, Mountain Dew & Strawberry Cake, Cherry Coke & Chocolate Cake.

  2. Preheat oven to 350.

  3. For cakes, grease a pan with shortening or butter.

  4. For cupcakes, either grease a cupcake pan or use oven-ready Baking Cupcake Cups - ones with foil are more durable and can stand independently in the oven.

  5. Pour the whole can of soda and bag of cake mix into a blender and mix thoroughly. If lacking a blender, pour the ingredients into a large bowl and beat with a mixer, or by hand until well mixed.

  6. Pour mixture into the pan or cupcake cups and bake for 30-35 minutes. Test if the cake is done by poking it a toothpick or fork in the middle of the cake; if the toothpick/fork is clean upon removal, the cake is done.

  7. When finished, remove from oven and let stand until cool.

  8. Apply cool whip or frosting, some sprinkles if you like, and enjoy your tasty treat!
